Psalm 51:10-12 – Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy Holy Spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. (KJV)

I made good use of my time today. My husband was gone for the morning and I thought, "Good time to clean through the house." I had read the Daily devotional first thing, as I always do, and it was on cleaning the bathroom. It dawned on me that I have two bathrooms to clean, not my favourite chore either. A time alone cleaning is great therapy and a good time to think. My memory went back to when I was a young girl. The two things I had to do on Saturdays were to clean my bedroom (no comment) and the bathroom. To this very day I can see those little black squares with four little white tiles around them. The whole floor was done in this pattern. There I was, down on my hands and knees scrubbing with Old Dutch cleanser. The floor, which seemed to be about 20 feet by 20 feet but was more likely 4 feet by 6 feet, just seemed a huge task and I hated it.

Today I realize that these were teaching tools. When the house is all cleaned up, I can sit down and say "It is good," until the one I dearly love comes home, and then it starts getting messed up again. Then I have another chance to put it right. When God created the heavens, the earth and all creation, he said, "It is good" — until man, whom He dearly loves, came and messed it up. God has given us another chance to make it right again, by receiving the forgiveness of Christ. Someday, thank God, Christ will come again, and all will be put right with the world. No more cleaning, for all will be made like new.

Prayer: Lord God, never let me be kept from knowing what it is to be cleansed in the blood of the lamb. Amen.
