The Connection

Listen to this devotional:
Listen while you read: "Rock Of Ages Cleft For Me"1 (Lyrics)

John 14:6-7 – Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him." (NIV)

As editor, publisher, and deliverer of our little town's newspaper, I am always amazed at the number of people who look forward with expectation to its publication every other Wednesday. The paper usually consists of a mere 4-16 pages, and mainly contains such items as local upcoming event dates and business advertisements. When I developed its existence six years ago, I never dreamed how in-demand and popular it would become in both hard and e-mail copies.

Recently, as I was adding yet another new contact to the e-mail subscription list, I contemplated the success of the paper and came to the conclusion that people love it because it offers them connection — connection with one another and with the town as a whole.

  • People who live in Atlin only six months or less each year enjoy being able to follow what's happening year-long.
  • Others living elsewhere who have family living here feel that in some small way, they, too, are a part of their loved ones' lives, as they see what is going on.
  • The locals feel connected to one another as they mark their calendars in anticipation of upcoming events and social enjoyment.

Connection is important for human beings, for our heavenly Father has created us to be social creatures — social with one another but also with Him, which is why He published and delivered His own form of what the world has come to know as the Good News.

Adam and Eve were created for fellowship: connection both with one another and with God, their heavenly Father. But when they sinned in the Garden of Eden, that connection with God became broken, not only for themselves, but also for all mankind who would follow, a connection which could be re-established only through the Good News of Jesus Christ, Who came that mankind might not perish but receive eternal life through the forgiveness of sin and reconnection with the Father.

Today, the Good News is still available, but it is not just available every second Wednesday like the news that I publish in my community. It's available each and every day — 24/7 — for each and every one who wishes to subscribe to a new life in Christ Jesus, Who makes an eternal connection with God our heavenly Father a reality for eternity.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank You so much for the Good News of Jesus Christ, Who is our connection with You now and forevermore. Throughout our world this day, may the hearts of many choose to subscribe to this Good News that has the power to turn our world upside down with connections of love and forgiveness for one another. In Christ's name, we pray. Amen.

Yah, for sure, where would I be without that connection!

You have boundless energy! What an amazing person you are!

It is GREAT what you are doing. Where in the world is your town?

Bless you, Lynne, for sharing this devotional about keeping people connected with one another and Christ Jesus. Blessings.

Lynne – Wow! What a great devotional-full of love and connection to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords! This enables us to connect with others that are far apart with love and compassion as mutual followers of Christ. Praise Him!

    Hi Lynne
Always enjoy, and are blessed by reading your devotions
    God bless.

Yep, Lynne, you certainly are a fine Editor. For one thing, I liked and smiled the way you ’snuck’ in the last paragraph as you centred our God & Son.
Once again I pray that God will continue to bless you real good.

    Dear Lynne:
I didn’t realize that you 48 hours in a day out in BC. My goodness you’re a busy lady. Just more proof of our Lord’s Great blessings.
    Thanks again Lynne.

Well done Lynne! with much appreciation for the work you have done in your community and with the PresbyCan Daily Devotional.
I almost feel I know you and your animals!

Greetings Lynne, and Blessings in the name of our Lord Jesus. Amen.
I must admit hat I really enjoy your “little” newspaper so very much!
Thank you sending to me. I almost feel as if I was a very small part of your community, which I dearly love.

    Hi Lynne,
Thanks for your marvelous devotional! I especially noted that you capitalized Who when referring to our Saviour. Way to go! This is something many bible commentators have dropped in recent books. Pity.
    God bless you!

Dear Lynne, knowing the way you express yourself, I suspect that your community readers also gain something ‘eternal’ from your news articles.
Your love of the Lord reaches through what you say somehow, and the heart is touched. Your words often lead me to be more appreciative of the particular people around me, as well as all that I have. Blessings on your day.

    Hi Lynn,
You are right on two counts:
    1) During the twenty years we lived in various parts of the country and the world we always subscribed to the local weekly. We received it about 6 weeks after publication but always looked forward to reading the local news.
    2) The Good News was and is always available to us.
    Blessings.

    Great illustration Lynne.
    Keep up the good work!
    Blessings.

Thank you for your devotional. We have a similar paper available online. It’s filled with home grown content, puzzles, jokes and clearly recognizable Christian content – for those who want to see it.
    Blessings. Thank you.

    This is precious, Lynne.
    Thank you.
We feel that connection with the human ones and especially with the Divine One.
    Keep writing.
