Candle Of The Son

Listen to this devotional:

Psalm 18:28 – For thou wilt light my candle: the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness. (KJV)

1 John 1:1 – That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched — this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. (NIV)

While walking through a dark passage of my life, a deeply stressful time with a lot of uncertainty, many years ago, God personally spoke to me through the words of today's verse in Psalm 18. These words filled my heart with new hope, strength, and peace. "For Thou wilt light my candle" literally became true for me as I depended on the Holy Spirit's wisdom and guidance. As a result, a time of turmoil and sadness proved to be one of the strongest, most powerful moments of my life. Like a divine candle shining brightly with the illumination of God's Son, He led me safely through.

John 8:12 – When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life." (NIV)

If we are willing, He will not only rescue us from the darkness of this world, but the brilliant light of His presence will also move us toward a definite goal and purpose for our lives. Then His light, being "the light of life", will produce an abundance of fruit for those who put their faith in Him.

Regardless of worldly circumstances, the Lord our God will never abandon us. He will light our candle with "the Word of life" to protect and lead us along our earthly journey. Psalm 119:130 declares, "The unfolding of your words gives light." (NIV) When we are faced with a certain crisis or hardship, not knowing where to turn, let us rest assured that the word of Christ will shed His blessed light on each step we take.

Looking toward the future, may we remain encouraged by the hope of God's eternal promise:

Isaiah 60:19 – The sun will no more be your light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory. (NIV)

Prayer: Father, thank You for sending Your Son into the world to give us the true light. Keep His candle burning brightly in our lives, guiding us daily with full illumination from "the Word of life". In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
