Garden Fresh

Luke 10:2 – He [Jesus] told them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field." (NIV)

Fall has come and the time of harvest is here. Looking from my window to the garden, I can see that the last of the tomatoes have ripened, and they are shiny red, waiting to be picked. Though my garden is not large, I planted enough tomatoes to provide a treat for us that would be garden fresh.

These days are also a spiritual harvest time. Let us, as His workers, though we may be few, seek out those in our midst who are garden fresh, just waiting to be picked. Even in our churches there are those who attend who have never received Christ as their Saviour. Let us be aware of this, so that we can share with them the good news of Christ, and so that, in His saving power, they may become a special treat to grow in God's garden.

Looking upon these people and comparing them to my ripe shiny red tomatoes bids us to reflect on the work Christ has called us to do, that we might all be made new in the Spirit and become garden fresh.

John 4:35 – Do you not say, "Four months more and then the harvest"? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. (NIV)

As harvest comes for my tomatoes, it also comes for those who are ready just waiting to be picked. Let us not wait another year to open our eyes. All is garden fresh and the harvest is ready — now.

Prayer: Dear Lord, as we reflect on the past year, and the abundance given to us, let us be reminded of the food meant for our spirits, that we may share Your saving grace given to us through the blood of Jesus. Help us to harvest new souls, the ones made known to us by You, who are ripe and ready to be picked. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
