Romans 5:8 – But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (NIV)

"Grandma," the small, brown-eyed child whispered in my ear, "Grandma, do you want me to sing for you?" And when I nodded and assured her I'd love to hear her song, she climbed up on my wooden blanket box and sang the song she was practising for the "Wee Wigglers Choir". As I listened to the child's clear voice, a tiny teardrop formed in the corner of my eye. She sang each proclamation with her whole heart: "Jesus loves me." The words were familiar. I, too, had sung them when I was her age.

Listening to her sing, the message struck me anew. Three small words, so simple a child can understand, yet they contain so much. They say that Jesus, the Son of the Almighty God, loves us. The next three words are equally profound in their scope, for they say that we can know of His love personally: "Jesus loves me, this I know."

Where would a five-year-old child or a fifty-year-old adult find this knowledge? The next six words tell us how we can know this truth: "Jesus love me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so!"

If we hear no other truth, yet we learn that Jesus loves us, and we know this for the Bible tells us so, then we have an immeasurable treasure, a treasure that will lead us to meet this very same Jesus face to face someday.

Prayer: God, help us truly to grasp the full extent of your love for us, love so amazing, so divine. Thank you for bringing this simple truth to our hearts anew and afresh. Amen.
