Reflections

2 Corinthians 3:18 – But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. (NKJV)

2 Corinthians 3:18 – And because of us there is no veil over the face, we all reflect as in a mirror the splendour of the Lord; thus we are transfigured into his likeness, from splendour to splendour; such is the influence of the Lord who is Spirit. (NEB)

My photographic abilities are not of the professional category. I'm not adept in filters, light meters, time-exposure settings, or anything else that distinguishes the professional from the amateur.

Even so, I do manage to capture some pretty wonderful images, and perhaps my most treasured photos are those that are reflections — "mirror perfect" you might say. Sometimes they are so perfect that you would have to look closely to see which is real and which is reflection.

I was given one of those special moments a few weeks ago. While walking with a friend in the soft, warm rain, we came upon a marina where the water was so still as to perfectly reflect the images sitting upon it. It was so breathtaking to see and photograph, that even through the dullness of the drizzling rain and overcast sky, without benefit of sun, the beauty of the reflection still shone through.

We have been given the ability to choose how we will live our lives: on our own, or in the Spirit of the Lord, so that our lives may be a close reflection of His. For when we live "in the Spirit", it is His love, His care, His being there, that makes that reflection possible, even when, or especially when, our days are dull, overcast, and seeming to have no sun.

Let us reflect not only on how Christ lived and died for us, but also on how we can live our lives as reflections of Him.

Prayer: Grant that we may choose to live in Your light, O Lord, that You will be the guiding force that leads us through our dark days, as well as through our sunny ones. Let us live to be reflections of You. In Your name we pray. Amen.
