Matthew 28:20 – And I will be with you always, to the end of the age. (GNB)

A few months ago, our son had a homework assignment, and, as is often the case, the homework arrived the night before it was due. This particular task was to make a three-dimensional work of art that helped to explain the meaning of the poem Footprints in the Sand.

It happened that the other members of the family went out for supper that evening and our son stayed home. We would have preferred that he come with us, but it was his choice to stay home.

While we were out, we brainstormed ideas for our son's project, just in case we required any other art supplies that evening. If need be, there was a handicraft store in the same shopping mall where we were eating. We talked about the meaning of the poem Footprints in the Sand. My husband asked our daughter what the poem meant to her, and her reply hit the mark accurately. "Dad, it means that Jesus is with us 24-7".

Our conversation turned to ideas for the school project, and we decided that our son could bring a clock and a figure of Jesus. But, by the time we arrived home, our son had finished the project. He proudly displayed his "shoe box" creation complete with two cardboard figures, representing God carrying a man, and some paper footprints inside it.

We were happy that the homework was done, and our work was not wasted, as my husband suggested that this would make a good children's story. I decided to use the theme "God is with us 24-7" one Sunday.

It is indeed wonderful that God is with us "24-7". This gives us the basis for confidence in our daily living and it also gives us a reason to rejoice.

Prayer: Loving God, we thank you that you are present with us every hour and every day of our lives. Help us to feel your presence in our lives and to rejoice in the fact that we are not alone. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
