Out Of The Blue

Mark 4:26-27 – And he said, "So is the Kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground; And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how." (KJV)

As writers for Daily, we become accustomed to receiving responses whenever one of our devotionals appears. Invariably, we have some regular, devoted supporters, and there's usually a couple of new names sending words of support and encouragement. The day of the responses can pretty well be anticipated because we have a schedule of devotionals a month in advance.

And so it was with bewilderment the first couple of times my e-mail yielded responses to devotionals I'd written and had posted months and in some cases, a year or more prior. They seemed to come from out of the blue. The mystery was soon cleared up — someone, somewhere, thought they were worthy of passing on to other sites for others to read.

To realize how something can spread and to have what you've written reach beyond the audience for whom you intended and think you know, is a very humbling and touching experience. It is like sowing seeds, rising day and night, and finding that some of your seeds have set sail in the wind to be sown, to blossom and to be enjoyed far beyond your boundaries.

Our words do have wings. Let us use them wisely — being less conscious of what we will reap, and more mindful that what we sow, will be pleasing unto Him.

Prayer: Our heavenly Father, we thank you for the wondrous ways in which we are able to see your works and share them with others. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
